Questions: Delivery & ordering
Propane delivery and ordering questions
Call the office at (530) 888-7438 when your gauge reads about 30%, and your order goes out on your area's route day, usually within a week; Keep Full customers are scheduled for them from outdoor temperatures and past use. Tell us about gates, dogs and driveway access when you order so the driver can reach the tank.
What day of the week does your propane truck come to my area?
Every part of our delivery area has its own set weekday. Call the office and we will tell you which day is yours, which makes it simple to time your next order.
My tank is already down to 15%. What should I do?
Call today instead of waiting for your route day to come around. Ordering at about 30% normally leaves enough lead time, and below that the margin gets thin. Special arrangements can be made in an emergency, so tell the office exactly how low you are.
Can I order a set number of gallons instead of a full tank?
Call the office at (530) 888-7438 to ask about ordering a set number of gallons. If you order your own deliveries, you decide when to order, and a tank tops out at about 86% in winter and 80% in summer.
Why can't you deliver the same day I call?
Our trucks run a different part of the foothills each weekday, so an order you call in rides along on the next trip to your area, usually within a week. If you are out of propane or nearly out, say so when you call, because emergencies are handled differently.
Can I call in a propane order on a weekend or holiday?
Yes. Outside office hours, calls to (530) 888-7438 go to an answering service that reaches our staff. The office itself is open Monday through Friday, 8 to 4:30, closed from noon to 1, and routine orders are put on the schedule from there. You can also send the Request a Delivery form on this site at any hour.
How do I let the driver know about my gate code or my dogs?
Give those details to the office when you order or open your account, and call again whenever something changes. On your delivery day, keep dogs inside, and either leave the gate unlocked or make sure we have the current code.
What should I do to get ready for a propane delivery?
Make sure the truck can pull in close and the driver has a clear walk to the tank. Keep the driveway free of parked vehicles, equipment and snow, and trim branches that hang low over the drive. The hose reaches 120 feet, but each bend around a fence, deck or building eats into that length.
Should I order propane early when a winter storm is in the forecast?
Yes, if the gauge is getting low. Heavy snow can keep roads closed for days, and the Propane Education & Research Council advises keeping an adequate supply on hand so you are not waiting on a truck mid-storm. Mark the tank with a stake taller than the expected snow so it stays easy to find.
How far ahead should I order before a holiday?
Check the gauge well before any holiday week and order if it is anywhere near 30%. Holidays and cold snaps are busy, and the office is closed on holidays, even though the answering service still reaches staff.
Is Keep Full a good fit for a cabin or second home?
It usually works well, because nobody has to be there to watch the gauge. Keep Full timing comes from outdoor temperatures and your past use, so let the office know if you start staying there more often or add an appliance. That keeps the schedule in step with what the house actually burns.
Does Keep Full protect me if my tank runs dry?
If a Keep Full tank runs out while your account is in good standing, you are not charged for the leak test or the special trip, though certain restrictions apply. On a delinquent account those costs are billed, and for customers who order their own deliveries the pressure check after a run-out carries an extra charge. In every case the check has to happen, with the homeowner present, before the gas comes back on.
I'm out of propane. Can the driver just fill the tank and go?
No. Once a system runs dry, a pressure check and leak test must be completed before gas is turned back on, and the homeowner needs to be there so the technician can reach every appliance. Call the office to set it up, and do not relight any pilots yourself.
Can you fill the tank another company left at the house I just bought?
Usually not if the tank is leased. A leased tank belongs to whoever set it, whether that is AmeriGas, Ferrellgas, Suburban Propane or a local dealer, and normally only that company fills it. If the tank came with the house and is owned outright, we can fill it after a new-customer leak test, or we can set one of our own. Call the office and we will help you work out which you have.
How do I change or cancel a delivery I already scheduled?
Call the office at (530) 888-7438 during business hours, or leave word through the answering service after hours. The earlier you let us know, ideally before your route day, the easier it is to adjust.
