Where propane earns its keep on a wine property
Most vineyard land in the foothills sits well away from a natural gas main, so the tasting room, the production building and the owner's house usually share one fuel: propane from a tank on the property. One tank, or a few placed where the truck can reach them, can feed a surprising list of equipment. Tell us what you run today and what you plan to add, and we will talk through tank size and where it should sit.
- Furnaces and unit heaters for tasting rooms, offices and barrel or case storage buildings
- Water heaters for the hot water that cleanup and guest restrooms call for
- Fire features and outdoor kitchens at tasting areas
- Ranges and ovens in an event kitchen

Gas lines to the outdoor tasting area
Guests like to sit outside, and a fire feature or an outdoor kitchen gives them a reason to stay. We run the underground line from your main tank to the tasting area and leak test it before the gas goes on.
Harvest, fire weather and a full tank
Late summer and fall bring the busiest weeks in the cellar and the dry, windy weather that can lead PG&E to shut off power to reduce wildfire risk. A full tank is worth having going into that season, and propane appliances such as a fireplace or wall heater can keep a room warm without electricity.
Keep Full schedules deliveries from outdoor temperatures and your past use, so the office watches the tank for you. If you order your own deliveries, call us when the gauge reads about 30%.

Where the tank goes on a vineyard parcel
Spacing rules grow with tank size. Placer County's building handout for installations below 5,000 feet lists 10 feet from buildings and property lines for tanks of 126 to 500 gallons and 25 feet for tanks of 501 to 2,000 gallons, with the filling connection kept at least 10 feet from ignition sources such as electrical service or an air conditioning compressor. Your local building and fire officials confirm the final spot.
Access matters just as much. Our delivery hose is 120 feet long, so the tank needs a spot the truck can reach in the wet season as well as in August. Keep the route clear of trellis ends, bins and parked equipment, and let the office know about gates and gate codes.
Lines, leak checks and adding equipment
We run underground gas lines from the tank to each building and install the regulators. A leak test is required on every new installation, when a new appliance is added, and after any repair, modification or shut-off, so plan a visit before a new heater or kitchen line goes into service. Every appliance needs its own shut-off valve within 6 feet.
If you smell gas, leave the building first, then call 911 and us from outside.

Questions
Straight answers
Can one account cover the tasting room, the winery building and the house?
Call the office at (530) 888-7438 and we will set the account up to fit the property, including more than one tank. Terms are Net 10, and autopay can charge your card when a delivery is made.
Can you run gas to an outdoor tasting area?
Yes. We run underground lines from the tank to fire features or an outdoor kitchen, and the system is leak tested before the gas is turned on.
Where do we fill portable propane cylinders?
At our dispenser at 10290 Ophir Road in Newcastle, Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:30, closed noon to 1:00.
Should a winery choose Keep Full automatic delivery?
Keep Full suits a property where nobody has time to watch a gauge during harvest or events. An owner who checks the tank can instead call us when it reads about 30%.
