Questions: Billing & Budget Plan

Billing and Budget Plan questions

Bills are due Net 10 and can be paid online through My Account, by autopay, or with cash, check, Visa, Mastercard or Discover. The Budget Plan spreads a year of propane into 11 equal payments charged to your card on the 10th, followed by a clean-up month, and each budget year starts in May.

What day of the month is my Budget Plan payment charged?

The 10th. Budget accounts are set up on autopay, so that day each month the payment goes on the credit card you have on file.

Can I be on the Budget Plan and Keep Full at the same time?

Yes, and the two fit together well. Keep Full handles when the propane arrives, timed from outdoor temperatures and your past use, while the Budget Plan evens out what you pay each month. Plans begin in May, so call the office ahead of the new budget year to set it up.

What happens if I use more propane than my Budget Plan payments covered?

The 12th month of the budget year is a clean-up month. It settles the account against what you actually used, whether that came out higher or lower than the payments, and closes out the cycle.

I still owe on my account. Can I join the Budget Plan?

Not until the balance is cleared. An account needs a zero balance or a credit before the Budget Plan can begin.

Does the Budget Plan lower my propane cost?

No. It changes when you pay, not what a gallon costs. What you gain is a steady amount each month in place of big winter delivery bills, and no finance charges building on an unpaid balance.

Will my Budget Plan payment be the same next year?

Not necessarily. Each year's amount is worked out from your gallon use during the prior heating season together with propane's current price, so a colder winter, a new appliance or a market change can move it up or down.

How do I get off the Budget Plan?

Call the office at (530) 888-7438. The plan starts over on its own each year unless you cancel, so tell us if you do not want it to renew.

What happens if I pay my propane bill late?

Terms are Net 10, so payment is due 10 days after you are invoiced. If the account goes unpaid past 30 days, finance charges and interest start to accumulate. A delinquent account also loses the Keep Full run-out protection on leak-test and special-trip charges.

Which credit cards do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard and Discover. If you want to pay some other way, call the office and ask.

What is My Account, and what can I do there?

My Account is our secure online customer portal, where you can look up your account and make a payment. The link is at the top of every page on this site.

Can I pay with cash or drop off a check?

Yes, both cash and checks are accepted. The office is at 10290 Ophir Road in Newcastle, open Monday through Friday from 8 to 4:30 and closed from noon to 1. Mailed payments go to P.O. Box 4590, Newcastle, CA.

Does autopay charge my card before or after the delivery?

After. With autopay, the card on file is charged when the propane is delivered, so there is no separate bill to remember.

What charges can show up on my bill besides the propane?

A few situations add a charge. A pressure check after a run-out is billed extra, except on Keep Full accounts in good standing, where the leak test and special trip are covered (restrictions apply). Finance charges and interest begin on balances unpaid after 30 days, and every returned check carries a $35 fee.

Why was my price per gallon different from my last delivery?

Propane prices follow the wholesale market, which the U.S. Energy Information Administration links to crude oil and natural gas prices, supply and demand, and the winter heating season. As a public reference point, EIA's U.S. average residential price was $2.674 per gallon, excluding taxes, for the week of March 30, 2026; EIA's weekly table does not include a California figure. Call the office for the current price on your account.

Is American River Gas cheaper than AmeriGas, Ferrellgas or Suburban Propane?

We do not publish prices, and every dealer's price moves with the market, so the only fair comparison is a current quote from each. Differences between companies come partly from transportation costs and from what service is included. As a full-service company we have trained service technicians, consumer safety programs and an answering service that reaches staff around the clock, so compare delivery options, run-out charges and after-hours help along with the per-gallon number.
