Propane delivery in North Auburn, CA

American River Gas delivers propane across North Auburn from our Ophir Road yard in Newcastle, about 5 miles and 11 minutes away. The built-up blocks near Highway 49 are mostly on PG&E natural gas, so North Auburn's propane homes are chiefly the acreage and private-road homes around them.

Two North Auburn maps: the gas main and the 95602 ZIP

North Auburn is two different places for a propane company. The Census-designated place along Highway 49 and Bell Road is largely served by PG&E gas lines; only 265 of its 5,332 households heat with propane. Draw the line around the whole 95602 ZIP area instead, and 3,441 households, about 45%, heat with propane.

That ZIP stretches past the CDP into Bowman, Christian Valley and, across the county line, Lake of the Pines. So when a North Auburn address runs on propane, it is usually on a few acres, at the end of a shared lane, or in a pocket the main simply never reached.

Which delivery program fits a North Auburn home

North Auburn is about 5 miles and 11 minutes from our yard, up I-80 and Highway 49. Inside the North Auburn CDP only about 5% of households heat with propane; the propane homes are mostly on the parcels outside it, across the wider 95602 ZIP area, where about 45% do. For a full-time household that heats, cooks and runs a water heater on propane, Keep Full is worth a look.

  • Keep Full: we time each fill from outdoor temperatures and your past use, so a cold week in January does not catch you short.
  • Ordering yourself: good for a weekend place or a shop tank. Call when the gauge reads about 30%; we usually deliver within a week on the North Auburn route day.
  • Budget Plan: equal monthly payments billed on the 10th, on a May to April budget year.

Tanks and underground lines on North Auburn lots

Many parcels off Dry Creek Road and the lanes around Bowman have a house, a detached garage and sometimes a barn or studio. We set leased or customer-owned tanks by crane, size them to the appliances you run, and trench underground gas lines out to the outbuildings so one tank serves the whole property.

After the lines are in, we pressure test the system and install the regulators before the first fill.

Wildfire memory and power shutoffs

North Auburn knows fire. The 49 Fire of August 30, 2009 burned 343 acres here and destroyed 66 structures, according to CAL FIRE. Keep grass mowed and brush cut back around the tank, and do not stack firewood or lumber against it.

When PG&E called a Public Safety Power Shutoff on October 23, 2019, its Placer County list named Auburn and Christian Valley. Keep Full automatic delivery keeps the tank topped up ahead of an outage like that, so a propane fireplace or wall heater that runs without power still has fuel.

Cylinders, RV tanks and emergencies

Barbecue and RV cylinders can be filled at our dispenser at 10290 Ophir Road on weekdays from 8:00 to 4:30, closed noon to 1:00.

If you smell gas, leave the building first, then call 911 and us from outside. After hours, the answering service reaches our staff. If a tank ever runs empty, a leak test is required before we relight the appliances.

Buying a North Auburn home that runs on propane

Ask the seller whether the tank is leased or owned; a leased tank belongs to the company that set it. Then call us to open an account. We fill a tank you own or set one of ours, and check the system for leaks before the first delivery.
