The drive west from Ophir Road

Sheridan sits out on the valley floor, well below our foothill yard. From our yard, the drive takes the Lincoln Newcastle Highway (Highway 193) west to Lincoln, then runs up Highway 65 about seven and a half miles northwest of Lincoln to Sheridan, about 20 miles and 35 minutes in all. Properties out here are spread out, so tell us about any locked gates, cattle guards or livestock in the pasture when you set up your account.

A farm town at 105 feet

Sheridan began as Union Shed and took the name of General Philip Sheridan around the Civil War era. Its post office opened in 1868. The community is unincorporated, governed by the Placer County Board of Supervisors with a Municipal Advisory Committee, and it covers about 25 square miles of mostly open land. Camp Far West Reservoir, on the Bear River where Placer, Nevada and Yuba counties meet, is a short drive away.

Propane use here is split. In the 95681 ZIP area, 141 of 336 households, about 42%, heat with propane, and about 35% use utility gas. So a sizable share of Sheridan homes has utility gas. The other four in ten rely on a tank in the yard.

Ranch, shop and agricultural propane

Many Sheridan properties are more than a house. We deliver agricultural and commercial propane as well as residential, and we can set tanks for a shop heater, a barn, a second dwelling or other farm equipment that runs on propane. If you are adding a building, we can run an underground line from an existing tank or set a separate one, whichever fits the load and the layout of the property.

Weather here is about ground, not snow

At about 105 feet, winter delivery in Sheridan is not a snow question. It is a wet-ground question. A loaded delivery truck needs a firm path, so if the tank sits across a pasture or a dirt track that turns soft in the rain, let us know. Our 120-foot hose lets the driver stay on gravel or pavement in many cases. Summer brings the opposite chore. CAL FIRE's hazard map shows the center of Sheridan in its Moderate zone, and a mowed buffer of short grass around the tank is still a smart habit.

Delivery programs

  • Keep Full: automatic fills, planned from temperatures and your usage. Good for households that would rather not track the gauge.
  • Ordering yourself: call at about 30% on the gauge and we deliver on your area's route day, usually within a week.
  • Budget Plan: equal monthly payments on a May to April year, billed on the 10th.

Power shutoffs on the ranch

Sheridan was named in PG&E's October 2019 Public Safety Power Shutoff plans for Placer County, and PG&E estimated about 51,600 Placer County customers would be affected by its October 2019 shutoffs. On a ranch, an outage can stop the well pump and the water troughs. Keep Full automatic delivery keeps the tank topped up ahead of an outage, and a propane fireplace or wall heater still heats the house with the power off.
